Kruzin Back in the 80s, I had a roommate that was ex-air force. We lived in an apartment just a few blocks from Lowry AFB in Colorado (when it was still there). They used to train B-29 pilots there in the 40s.
At the time in the 80s, they were restoring a B-29 called "T Square 54" to be a non-flying museum display. Back then, there was little security to get on base and me and my roomy were able to walk onto the base, talk to some of the guys working on it and actually climb through the plane in it's half-restored state. We entered the plane near the rear, saw the tail section, then crossed the catwalk up to the cockpit. It's quite a piece of machinery, no doubt. When they closed Lowry AFB, they took her apart and shipped her to the Museum of Flight in Seattle where she still sits today.

LouC many do not know that Chrysler built and improved the Wright Cyclone engines used on the B-29 and also built sub-assemblies on this aircraft. We took a tour of one of the last operating B-29s at Farmingdale Republic air port (American Airpower museum) in 2018. It was an awesome experience. They also have a full range of aircraft built by the former Republic Aviation on that site, including the A-10 Warthog (Thunderbolt II).

RockWoRM Link page not coming up on my PC. ??

Anywho, would love to see it. Stuff like this is always in SoCal.
Too far for me. They used to have Warbirds air shows up here in the central valley, but not much lately. Bummer.

The only B29 I've seen in person is @ Castle AFB museum. Cool, but not the same as seeing one fly. They do have a B36 however. Geez, that thing looks bigger than a B52!!!
