2014 Compass stalling after start

Hello,

I have a 2014 Jeep compass, under 40k miles, that keeps shutting off after start. No lights, no clicking, no shuddering, just sort of clean stalls after about 2 seconds. If I turn it off, and turn it back on again, it keeps repeating, unless I can somehow manage to rev it between 2-3k for a little while, then it will stay running. It doesn't stall any other time, not at lights, not when I am idling, it is JUST upon start. I already filled the tank with seafoam, and that didn't work. Any thoughts?

Sounds like a weak battery or a poor electrical connection.

The computer sets the engine idle speed via the idle air controller, which is a stepper motor with a plunger that controls the amount of airflow through a passage in the throttle body. Normally the computer will count the number of steps the IAC moves to attain proper idle and remember to use the same number next time you start the vehicle. In the event you have a weak battery or similar issue causing low voltage to be supplied to the computer, it will lose the stored stepper information and must start over anew trying to figure out where to set the IAC -- holding the throttle down helps to not only manually keep the engine running, but also to allow the alternator to bump the voltage up where the computer will function normally.

Hello aboudreau103,
We are certainly sorry to hear about your recent concern. If you do end up getting the vehicle towed to a Jeep dealer, please send us a PM. We would like to have this documented and have a case escalated in your behalf so a Case Specialist can work with your dealer to help find a potential solution.

Thank you for your response! So after doing a quick code scan, we found:

B1A25: invalid key
C1000: Brake Pedal Switch 1 circuit performance
P0688: ECM/PCM Power Relay Sense Circuit/Open
P0513: Invalid SKIM Key

I replaced the battery in my key, and thought it worked. It started great, and was fine for about a week. All of a sudden it happened again, and this time I really couldn't get it started. After a few tries, the engine stopped turning over. I left it for a bit, thinking I would get it towed, then after a couple hours, I tried again, and it started fine! I think this may be an issue I need to have the dealership fix.
