Tailgate reenforcement or new carrier for 35s

Good morning,

I have a 2014 JKU Sport. Shortly, I will purchase 315/70/R17 tires. I have read online that placing these heavy tires (with my steel Pro Comp 69s) on the stock tire carrier will cause premature sagging of the hinges and may damage the welds.

I will look to get a beefier tire carrier and rear bumper in a year or two, but I have some must haves on my list for my Jeep, along with bugging a house, this year.

My question:
1) Will the MOR/ryde Heavy Duty Hinge (Amazon) be a good two year solution? Or will my welds still be in danger of becoming damage?
2) If 1) is a no go, would the EAG Tire Carrier on Door Hinge W/Adjustable Tire Mount (Amazon) be decent carrier for 2 years?

Thank you!

Iíve heard the tailgate itself along with the hinges cannot handle the weight. We installed a Terraflex spare mount. It is a beefy hinge with tire carrier. Downfall is price, but it is very nice.

Buy the teraflex. In addition to replacing the hinges with heavy duty ones, it spreads the load out over a wide area. Plus there are holes to bolt accessories on to it.

Too many mods to list. Too awesome to sell.

I have a 14 Ribicon X so I went with the Smittybuilt swinging tire carrier. I love it. Also has a place for my high lift jack and Antannae.

I also bought the Smittybilt HD tire carrier for my new 315 x 70 x 17 tire and it works great. I got it with a free install at 4WheelParts since I purchased 5 tires and wheels from them.

This is exactly what I did. It is more then enough for your plans.

I've been running the MorRyde hinges and reinforcement with a Smittybilt carrier for years with a 35 and 3.5 gallon rotopax.
No sagging, no deformation of the tailgate, no issues except the rotopax hits the passenger taillight when opened beyond 90 degrees. Plus the hinges have zerks for easy greasing.
I'm really happy with the setup.
