Need JK buying advice

Iím a satisfied owner of a slightly modded WJ but am trying to decide whether to sink a lot more into this platform or switch to a JKUL Rubicon.

To that end, can you tell me what year JKUL Rubi I should look at and which options? Which engine? T-case? Etc. TIA.

since your current jeep is modded, i suspect you are more than just a mall crawler and the rubicon’s more useful features will not just be jewelry.

the 3.6 is in 12 and up, as is the better automatic transmission.

not all rubicons come with 4.10 gears. automatics come standard with 3.73, so check the build sheet if you want 4.10 gears and an automatic. manuals came standard with 4.10 gears.

if you are set on a rubicon, the rubicon recon from 17&18 is decent due to the j8 front axle upgrade. if i was not such a 10A fan, i would have a recon.

now i found dealers are willing to negotiate more with the manuals since the buyer pool is so small, and they often sit longer on the lot. i got what i feel was a good deal on my 10A since it is a stick.

good luck with your search.

That is sooo true, dealer come my way a bunch on a 6spd Recon 40g km's, thing is mint not a scratch...never been off road.
If your buying a JKU, get the model with most upgrades.... used is always at a discount compared to when that model was new!

Definitely would be used. So far it appears post 2012 JKU Rubi is preferred with 4.10 gears. A Recon is still fairly new and would probably be out of my price range.

Lockers, electronic sway bar disconnect, D44 on both ends, and a much lower crawl ratio are some of the defining characteristics of a Rubicon

Too many mods to list. Too awesome to sell.
