leather seats

One of the options that I want on the 2012 is leather seats. The problem is that there are no Jeeps with the options that I want within a 500-mile radius from my area. There are a couple of Jeeps that the dealer can swap for that has the options but they have cloth seats.

The dealer told me that they could have the leather installed on them once the Jeep arrives at their dealership. They also told me that it would be exactly like the factory leather seats because the place that will do the re-skin orders the covers from the same supplier that Chrysler does.

Does anybody know if that is true and will they in fact look and feel the same as if they came from the factory?

Just order a Jeep and get what you want from the factory, I don't think you will be happy with a "hack job" on a brand new 2012 wrangler.

Thatís what I was thinking too but they assure me itís the exact same thing as coming from the factory but then again I am well aware that dealers will say just about anything to get a sales. I was hoping that someone has had that done and can give me first hand experience, probably not though.

Of course they just want to get your $$$. It will be hard (trust me, I'm in the same boat.... Gotta wait a month to order/pick out my rubicon) but you should just order what YOU want and wait for it. I bet they will be able to allocate one for you, or the one you want might magically show up.

Patients will pay off in the long run!

I've had the same offer made to me; however, after seeing a factory 2-dooR with leather from factory, I think you'll be able to tell the difference between a factory OEM job and an aftermarket one. The factory stitching on the MY11 has a deviation in colour on the stitching - almost a grey stitch on black leather - and it looks good. I have no doubt a good trim shop could match or exceed the quality of the factory leather (it isn't that nicely finished) but I would doubt they'll get the seat looking exactly OEM. If that is a concern, as others have said, wait for a factory order.

What doesn't make a lot of sense to me is why the dealers don't offer to just put new sear covers on. The leather option on the Jeep is only on the seats; therefore, it would seem to be an easy fix and one the dealership could do themselves with the right part from Jeep.

You guys nake it sound like they killed the cow especially for the seat. It's a Katzkins job. It's not even real leather. If you want leather seats, then go ahead and have them do it, or if you want to wait order one from scratch.

I'll sell ya my leather seats ! The only part that's leather is the center anyway. The rest is vinyl. I only got leather because the only Jeep they had that had all the other stuff I wanted, had leather. I would have prefered cloth so i could've covered them with Wet Okole covers.

Get the jeep you want and install Katzkin leather. You can get any color and pattern you want (stock, perforated, suede ect).

You can customize stitching and piping as well.

I also added heat while I was installing the leather.

Katzkin is also REAL leather - they have two types.

The AEV Katzin is vinyl.

Our local dealers will put leather seats on anything on the lot - for a price. All the ones I have talked to (Ford, Chrysler, Toyota) use local trim shops that install http://www.katzkin.com/. We have a leather interior on the Prius (not PC).

The last dealer quote I heard was $1,000.00 for a 2011 Silverado ext cab leather interior. I took a pass on it.

It might be cheaper to deal direct with the trim shop but it wouldn't be easier and you couldn't roll the cost into the car note.

I hope this is helpful. I guess being in Nevada it is not an issue but in the Peach State ("A Rainy Night in Georgia") with the doors off it is a constant wet dry cycle and the fabric seats handle it well.

Thanks! It was a fun mod because it was something I've never done.

The rear headrests are only folded back and held down by bungies!
