Has anyone ever taken their Jeep and driven across the country?

I thought it would be cool to drive across country and wondering if anyone has ever done it in their JK.

I drove from DC to Omaha, NE in October. Did just fine! Not quite all the way cross-country...but half way.

closest we came was the florida keys to cleveland. that might count, maybe. anyway, we did it with gear and a family of 4 in a 2 door, not a single complaint. we got about 230 miles out of every tank (not pushing it) which is low but with 3 women in the jeep it worked out great.

the new jeep is nice on the highway, way better than out long gone '81 cj.

I drove mine from san diego to norcal a few times. the seats leave something to be desired........and going thru the hills sucks. but when i got up north i went wheeling on all my old trails, so it was worth it!

I am seriously considering on my next project, buying my new Rubicon from an Arizona dealer and then driving it back to Florida. I would stop at several places like Moab and texas for some four wheeling as I drove it back across. I think that would be a blast.

I will be taking my Jeep from SE PA to SW MT (on the Yellowstone River) beginning sometime in May. 2200 miles give or take.

However, my Jeep will be riding on a trailer. 2thumbsup:

Does this count?:

Lafayette, Louisiana up through the Ozarks and Ouchita National Forest then continued on to meet up with friends in Branson Missouri where I stayed for a week then drove back. I went with the hard top for better security and I just pulled the t-tops off on nice days.

Took mine from Salt Lake City to Pennsylvania last year, 1200 miles, about 300 miles per tank, no cruise, in 2 days. I drove my TJ out to Utah 6 months before and the JK was many more times comfortable.

Georgia to Jasper, Alberta and back. With side trips to Mt Rushmore, Devils Tower, Glacier National Park, Banff, Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, & Rocky Mountain National Park. In two weeks.

It was comfy compared to our usual 2 weeks on a motorcycle or in a Mini.

Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing.- Helen Keller

I have dipped my LJ's tires in both oceans - towed a tent trailer the whole way. My LJ has been in the Pacific Ocean 3 times and the Atlantic Ocean once. The trip to the Atlantic was driven on secondary highways and lots of backroads and gravel farm roads... it was awesome!!!
