D44 HD recieved

Buddy and I order the D44 HD PN P5160036 housings from MOPAR performance. They have arrived.

They have thick wall J8 tubes and heavier C's. All Rubicon parts are of course direct fit. Come complete with Balljoints and axle seals.

Are the brackets beefier and better welded?

The brackets definitely seem to be heavier. I will have a better look in the next few days and report back. The tubes and C's are definitely heavier.

What was price on the housing? I remember saying it was much cheaper than any other housing (Teraflex, Currie, Dynatrac).

Do you have an online link where you got it?

I'm interested and watching.

MOPAR overstock was the best price at $865USD .... http://moparpartsoverstock.com/

I got mine from my local MOPAR Jeep dealer for $1400 cdn which works out about the same with exchange.

I will try and get side by side photos once the old unit is removed.

Not sure if the Rubi D44 has it but these housings actually have a drain plug.. Once I get mine into the shop i will get some measurements on tube thickness and bracket thickness comparison..

Are the Cs really bigger? Some of the info floating around said they were the same castings as used on the standard JKD44.

They are definitely different. The new axle Cs have a smoother finish and a part number where the original housing Cs do not. In my original post the photo shows the PN on the C.

Cleaned off the Cs a little better on the factory axle and did indeed find a PN.
OEM #
Left side
6
J2L256
2003512

Right side
4
J2L256
2003512

On the 44HD

25
J2N571
2003512

As you can see there is a difference in the PN

Very cost effective build. This is what I have into it.

$865 D44HD housing
$1125. OX locker with electric actuator kit
$300 Yukon Gears and Master install kit
$335 Crown OE axles

Total $2625 USD.

Hello

I am sorry to revive this old thread to life but this is the only place where I read about a successful switch from a front D30 and from a Rubicon D44 axle to this D44 HD PN P5160036.
I live in Europe and I am tempted to switch my bent front axle with this D44 HD axle. I have a small question regarding the process, does all the Rubicon internals (especially front locker and carrier bearings) fit this J8 axle or it requires some modification.

I read mixed information about this P/N compatibility with front Rubicon's D44 Carrier Bearings.
On a Dynatrac's document where they compare all D44 axles it is mentioned that the front Carrier Bearings outside diameter for D44 is 3.313” (which is absolutely true) but for the J8 front axle the O.D. is 3.265” which will fail the locker swapping process.

Can you please shade some light on this matter because I don't know if I should venture and import this axle from US or not.

Thank you for your time and effort to share your experience with this,
Andi
