Changing Gears

I am finally at the point where my jeep is just a toy and no longer used as a DD. I have decided to go ahead and regear to better support what I am using the jeep for.

I am going from the stock 4.10 gears to 5.13 gears. I have the 6spd manual and am rolling on 35x12.5 tires.

I typically turn my own wrenches, but am going to have the gears done professionally. I am just wondering if anyone is running a setup like this and what you like/ dislike about it.

My install is set for the 30th.

if it had 4.1 then it must be a rubicon. since no other Jks 12 and up had that unless a rubicon and that was a option too or they are all 3.73 rubis if a AUTO, your is stick so Rubi would be 4.1 stock. stock sports are 3.21. 5.13 is a lot of gear for 35s on a 16jk. will be spinning some rpm if it does need to go down road.

5.13 would support 37s, but then other stuff is needed.

my 12jkr is still 4.1 and i do run 37s and its hard trails, jeep is on a trailer as well. Off road the 4.1 gears and 4:1 low does rather well a bit more wheel speed when needed and still more then enough crawl ratio, but it is a auto 5 speed. I should regear for street as it tends to be a dog going up say 12% grades on street that one gets into on some trails getting there. Still faster the say my friends tjs on same tires but 5.13 gears.

Yep mine is a rubicon. I decided to stick with 35s this go around, went from 315s to 35s so 1/4 to 1/2" difference. Ultimately I will move to 37s, but like you said there is a bunch of supporting mods needed to do it right. I will just upgrade as things break or wear out.

If your plans include 37's in the future, go 5.13's now.

My mistake was not knowing the future. When I did 4.56's, I was never planning on 37's (12, NAG1). Had 33's, knew I would go 35's. so 4.56 was correct. Fast forward 4 years, more into technical off road, won a set of 37's so that's where I went. Just not worth it for me to re-gear again.

My mistake was back in 2012 when i bought this. Hindsight i would have bough a used buggy on 40s and one tons to start with. then just rebuilt that as i wanted would have been far less money and better off road then a jeep. sure you can buggy the Jk or any jeep but its never going tobe like a full tube buggy..

Just an update. The deed is done and I am in the break in phase. So far so good and I am enjoying the 5.13s. On 35s I am turning ~2600 @ 65.

After all my research, i just made an appointment to take my 17 Rubi from 3.21 (WTF??) to 4.88's. I have an auto and running 35X12.50's. I never plan to go 37's cause I want to ensure it fits in the garage.
