Bluetooth module, music?

Hey all, visiting from the TJ forum.
Have a family member with an 08 JKU, want to get them the Bluetooth module for phone and streaming use, but keep seeing sellers saying that Uconnect kits do not have the ability to stream music, but some reviewers say they can. What am I missing here?

Looking at p/n: 82212159

I have the basic stereo (U130 I believe) and have the Bluetooth module as part of the hard rock package/alpine stereo

Bluetooth streaming works fine, but I’m not sure which factory radios are actually compatible with the module

They've had issues with playback since day one on these Bluetooth kits. It's spotty, works fine for some people, not at all for others. Mopar doesn't advertise it as capable of playback because of this. I think it depends partially on the phone and OS version on the phone, though I've never seen a poll or study to try to determine exactly what phones/OS works right.

I would look at an aftermarket head unit and not rely on one of those kits. Even with one of the latest Kenwood head units, my iTunes will sometimes hang up when streaming. In fact sometimes it will hang up even when directly plugged into the unit. This latest update to CarPlay is extremely frustrating.

I bought a cheap ($5) bluetooth unit that connects via the headphone jack for my '09. Works like a champ and if it breaks its only $5 to fix

I have the basic receiver so just bought an add on bluetooth module for $15 that plugs in the stereo jack and the a/c jack for power (I may have overspent ). Works great!
Alternatively, a new receiver may be the route to go.
Not sure if it will be worthwhile spending a lot of time troubleshooting existing bluetooth issues.
