Airbag Light Came on and Stayed Illuminated Twice

Yesterday morning on my way to work (2007 4 Door Unlimited Sport). Reasonably smooth commute, no pot holes nor evasive maneuvers. About ten minutes into the trip the Airbag Light illuminated with a *ding*. Stayed on for a few minutes. At the next light I turned off the ignition and removed the key for a few seconds. Restart and system recheck. No lingering Airbag light.

Ten minutes later, same thing. *ding* and Airbag Light comes and stays on. Wait a few minutes and "reboot" at a light. Complete final ten minutes of commute without incident.

When I got in the parking lot, I noticed that my back seat was in the down position and the passenger seat had been moved back. It was pressed tightly against the headrest of the rear seat. I was thinking that perhaps the seat sensor for the Airbag was being confused by the pressure in the back of the seat.

Can't say for sure that this was the issue, but I reset the seats to their full upright positions (and returned the tray table to its locked position and restowed all carry on luggage) and had no incidents on the way home nor on today's commute.

Just thought I'd share.

Yes, that happens if the front pass seat is all the way back pressing against the lowered back seat.

Good to know and if this is the case it should be easy to replicate to ease your mind. Just put the rear seat down and then move the front passenger seat all the way back again. Good luck!
