I have a 2008 JKU Rubi with an AEV hemi swap out of a 2008 Commander. Same issue. I will try the grounding solution tomorrow and reply with the results.

I have a 2007 and have the put it in nuetral or put a little pressure on the shifter when in park problem every now and then. But twice in the last 3 years I have had it not start at all. You could not jump it and you change the battery and still would not start. Both times when I went and got the spare key put it in the ignition and it started right up and then it would work with either key.

thanks

From the cab, it sounds like the "click-no-start" problem.
I don't think anyone has documented that the engine tries to turn over.

In your case, I would proceed with the ground wire improvement. It could use it even if it's not the problem.
Look at the positive wire to the starter, too, for loose/corroded connections on both ends.

It looks to me like a connection is good with no load, and the resistance goes way up with the high load of the starter. It could be on either the positive or negative side.

Also check your battery. It could be bad, and not able to supply the juice every time it's needed.

Sure looks the same that I had, but like ronjenx I never looked at the engine when mine failed. Can you start it in Neutral? If so then you can use Neutral to start it when it won't start in Park. If it won’t start in Neutral then it may be a different problem…

I've had starting issues on my 07. When you turn the key over I get a short crank and then it stops. I try several times and then it will start. Now it's starting but the gauges and the lights in the dash do not work. Instead of my dash lighting up my radio lights up. Nor will my horn or turn signals work. I unhook the postive battery cable and hook up a minute or two later and the the gauges and lights work and it will start. But after 5 minutes or so I will go to start it and the dash is out again.

Jeep Wrangler 08 intermittent starting problems

Have an intermittent starting problem with my Jeep Wrangler Unlimited 08. Problem started about a year ago. It just happened once. Thought it was a fluke. After about 4 months, it happened again. When it happens I'll crank it one to three times before it will start. Another 2 weeks happened again. This time it wouldn't start at all. After leaving it sit for about 12 hours, I tried starting it again and it works! Took it to a mechanic and he keeped it for about a week. Put a new starter relay in. Started fine for a month and then it happened again. Was going to bring to a Jeep Dealer to do diagnostics because he said he didn't think it was a starter problem. I decided to bring it back to my mechanic because he knew the history. He said to replace the starter. When I went to pick it up, it would not start on the first crank. I was shocked but I needed the car to go out of town in 2 days. The darn thing had a problem starting for 2 days. It was worse than before. Out of town now and it seems to be starting ok now. Will be bring it back and I have the mechanic look at the Ground Solution or the TRS solution. I sounds like the ground solution is covered by Star Case # 6505315, maybe I can get that done at the dealership. Wished I found this forum earlier.

FYI - the ground/TRS problem always exhibits a single click and then no start. The engine does not crank. If you engine cranks it's not the TRS/ground problem. Also, if you get the single click and no start in Park you can shift it to Neutral and try again. If it starts in Neutral then you have the correct symptoms.

Yeah, try the Neutral thing to see if that makes it start - no need to replace the TRS if it's working properly. I've read were some that were out of warranty did the Neutral thing for years (saves money if it works and you are out of warranty).

Guys for those having TRS issues we offer an external TRS circuit. We move it out of the transmission where it is subject to heat and contaminated fluid and into the cab. It is solid state and plugs into your original harness. In addition there is no need to tear down the transmission for replacement. It runs 100 bucks and is programable for 2007-2011 JK's.

For those who have 5 speeds in the Hemi's a different TRS is used. We do not offer this circuit yet but the critical wire for these transmissions is pin #4 Dk Blu/Yel at the TRS connector.

You can identify the TRS as the issue by grounding the yel /blu wire at the green TRS connector, pin #10.

When you do this it will start in any gear so be careful.

Just call Tom at the shop if you want a circuit, he will take care of it.

Thanks Robbie.
