Thats better than I get now. I'm still not sure which I am going to do the 5.2 or the 5.9. I am worried that if I go 5.2 I will wish that I went 5.9 errrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Evan at backwoods told me he has done both many times and he always likes the 5.2 better. He said they have a more aggressive cam and tend to rev up quicker and almost have the same Hp. Im taking his word for it, so I'm doing the 5.2

bought my 5.2 today. 950 for the engine from a Durango rear sump front dipstick, 92,000 miles looks to have been rebuilt at some point. AX-15 with the correct bell housing. 31 spline NP231, and all the accessories I could grab from a 96 5.2l ZJ including my second wiring harness and computer. Still need motor mounts, clutch kit, headers, radiator, I think that's it. The second computer and harness is from a 99 Dakota. Which harness should I use the Dakota or the ZJ to splice into my TJ harness? And is AlldataDIY the best source for the dakota/ZJ pin outs? I have the TJ FSM so I should be good on that front.

I think it's easiest to use the harness for the motor you have. You'll need 3 fsm manuals. Your jeep, the wiring harness, and the PCM. The PCM and wiring harness should be nearly identical, but mine had a few differences in colors and pinouts. I found the fsm in PDF on google

I used to build the 5.2 5.9 a long time ago, back when the RT dakota was "Fast" lol.
when you have the motor not installed yet, I would recommend changing out the stock intake manifold "keg" for a mopar m1 efi one. the stock one has a belly pan on the bottom and they always leak. you can get away with rtv or a new gasket every few yrs, but the m1 is all one piece and adds nice power. A ported TB and new rockers and pushrods would be a cheap and easy mod.

but on that note I would no longer put a 318 360 in anything, they were limited on power even with n2o or boost. with the price of 02-05 hemi's dropping, id consider that route for more power and better efficiency.

Well the hemis are still a pretty penny out here. They are dropping in the northeast where the rest of the vehicle is rotting. But out here in the northwest the magnums are still mostly on the road. Good info on the keg I did notice a bit of oil in the bottom of the keg on mine. What input do you have for the intake bolts? Read somewhere the factory bolts are too long? Makes it leak or something. I'm not trying to make a ton of power the 250-260hp range is perfect for my needs that will be more than double my 2.5l which I find acceptable but lacking on the highway. Any suggestions for where to get these parts.

I think the hemi would be awesome, but from everything I've read, the cheapest part of a hemi swap is buying the motor. All the parts to make it work are what add up

I went with the Hughes Plenum, it's a lot thicker than the stock plenum. I think it's around $120 for the plenum, gskts and bolts.

Anyone have any ideas? I've got the wiring done, and when I try to start, nothing happens. It doesn't even crank.

The donor was an auto, I'm wondering if the trans wiring is preventing the start -- like a neutral safety...??

That was exactly it. The donor was an auto. There is a park safety switch that needs to be grounded in the tranny harness.

She's alive!!!!! Fired up almost immediately

Now I need to put everything back together.

Only thing is, the gauges aren't working with the 5.9 computer, but the jeep computer works fine. Any thoughts here?

Btw, it's an 02 wrangler, with a 00 Durango motor. I used an 02 ram PCM ( so its pci bus) and had bg flash it for the 5.2
