Will 2002 Gas cap work on 2004?

Just wondering if anyone knows off hand. They have changed the gas cap 3 times in the last few years. I know that a 2001 Gascap will not work with the 2002's. So i was just wondering if my old 2002 gascap will work with my current 2004. THanks for any help

Not Sure

Not too sure, however I was going to mention thinking about getting an aftermarket locking gas cap. You can get them from JC whitney and similar catalogs.

I figured someone would ask me why I havent tried it. Actualy the reason I cant try it is because the lock is already keyed to my 02 wrangler. I dont have the keys to the old wrangler so if I put it on it will be locked. If I find out that it will work I will just take it to get re-keyed. I just dont want to spend the $$ to re-key it if its not going to work.

Ahhhh, So you have one of the locking gas caps... Well you might have to buy a new one anyhow since they just redesigned them early part of this year. This was done to address the leaking channel problem they had in the initial design, which caused the check engine light to come on. I've had mine on since March '03 and no problems yet (knock on wood).

I'd be careful with the aftermarket locking caps. I bought one for my '01 and it resulted in making the check engine light come on. Even though it felt tight, it didn't seal well enough and I ended up sending it back...

The cap I have is a Mopar locking gas cap and it worked fine on my 02. So as long as there were no changes it SHOULD work fine, but i still need to find out for sure before I go spend $30 to have it re-keyed

A question on your locking gas cap

I just bought a locking gas cap, from my local jeep dealer, for my 2003 wrangler. Does your lock cylinder come out of the gas cap when you unlock it?

No, it shouldnt. Its possible the cylinder was put it backwards. I put mine in the wrong way and it would fall out.
BUt to answer your question, No it should not come out.
