Unknown electrical issue

Okay who knows about electrical! My check gauges light keeps coming on and the gauge goes down to 9 every time I drive. The battery died so now it has brand new battery and alternator and still having this issue. My mechanic friend said it is a wiring issue and thought he found it but it didn't fix it. Any ideas where it could be coming from?

I'm hoping he will find it but figured I would ask the community as well! I don't want the issue to kill my battery and alternator again! It wouldn’t start this morning...

It sounds to me like the voltage regulator is not working.

I would think your mechanic would have checked that before replacing the alternator but if not that should be checked. Unfortunately they are built into the PCMs and are known to fail occasionally. If it is bad there are external regulators that may be installed rather than replacing the PCM.

I had a similar issue with my '05 LJ that I traced down to the generator field wire shorting on the back of the engine block. If it is a wiring issue, your mechanic should be able to find and fix it.
