Uh Oh Need help again! TJ Transmission Problem

My dads 97 Jeep Wrangler Sport TJ 4.0L transmission just broke (its manual) and from everyone I talked to about it breaking they said its really hard to break Jeep transmissions so I wondered what could of happened my dad says he was at a stop light he put it in First took off normal when he put it into 2nd he heard a loud boom and something started grinding he tried every gear 1st-5th and none of the gears worked except reverse reverse was the only gear that worked wondering if anyone has had this problem before and if anyone knows a solution to this problem if anyone knows what can be wrong with the transmission what can be replaced please let me know Thank You!

A loud boom followed by grinding usually indicates something broke. Since the transmission still works in reverse, it's fairly safe to say that the problem is most certainly internal to the transmission. Suffice to say the transmission will most likely require rebuild or replacement.
