Tj Violent Shaking

Hey guys I was thinking you could give me some input on my Tj. I regularly drive about 75, it was a normal drive I regularly make to and from school. While driving on the freeway I noticed the front slowly started to hop, bounce, and shake. While I thinking about that the front end started jumping violently. I took my foot of the gas and pulled of to check everything out and it all seemed fine. I went back on the road and everything was normal again. This has happened twice now and I think it may be death wobble but I don't know where to begin to find and solve the problem since there is so much info out there. It is a 2001 TJ 4.0 with a 5 speed, 3 inch lift, 31 inch BFG All Terrains.

Any input is appreciated, Thanks

Sounds like death wobble.

check out the planman death wobble thread here, it has a step by step list of things to check. You should be able to find it searching the tj forum for "Planman Death Wobble"

I went to 2.5" springs and inherited the death wobble. It would start when leaning into a left turn, and I actually got pulled over for it and almost had to call a wrecker to get it home, but I was given a reprieve because I was only a few blocks from home.

The lift wasn't the cause, but it exaggerated other issues that I already had. Things I knew I had wrong were severely cupped left front tire, and the alignment was way toed-in because of the lift. I got it from the tire shop Friday with new tires and alignment AND a replaced drag link and steering stabilizer. Wobble is gone. The drag link was shot at the ends, and the stabilizer was completely flat - no resistance.

The info in that link is super!
