TJ soft top replacement advice

Good afternoon,

(I wasn't sure of which forum section to post this in; thought I'd start with the TJ tech room.)

I'm seeking opinions/advice on good brands/order options/tips, etc. for a Wrangler TJ soft top replacement.

Here's my Jeep's general specs:
+ 2004 Wrangler Sahara
+ Original soft top color: khaki (as best I can tell according to interior color description of khaki...it's not grey, nor black)
+ Body color: Shale green metallic

Ideally, I'd like to order it online and install it myself. I've yet to "investigate" how the front end attaches to the soft top frame (that's the only questionable attachment point; with a quick look, all else appears to be "no brainer" snaps/slide-ins/velcro). I did a brief online search and it appears I can pick something up for < $300.

I'd prefer to get the same color (khaki?) with rear window tinting, but might not be available, so I'm fine to go greyish/black with or without tinting. Also, I'd really like to get one of the soft tops that have that "half sunroof" option, or whatever it's called, where you flip the front end back partially.

Input/experience is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Bestop is the OE manufacturer, I'd go for one of their Replace-a-Tops. The only issue is khaki is no longer available, which is a real shame as that's what my '04 TJ came with too. Other cheaper tops like from Smittybilt are made from cheaper thinner fabrics, I'd stay with Bestop.

When you have a choice, buy American made.

Like JB stated above, if your hardware and frame are in good shape, a replace-a-top, new fabric and windows, is the best option, if you like the factory style.

The "half sunroof" you mention is called the sun rider top.

Jerry - Thanks. Yeah, I was hoping for the khaki replacement, but with a quick online search it wasn't showing up (so I wasn't getting my hopes up). Appreciate the recommendation.

jhanna - thanks for your input, as well, and the lingo update (sun rider top).

personally, i dig the bestop frameless top. it has the sun rider flip option and when you remove the windows it becomes a safari top. don't think i'd ever go back to a traditional soft top

can't remember where i got it, maybe amazon, maybe quadratec. whoever had the best price.

I don't trust shops for installs, not even ones as easy as putting on a soft top.

I loved mine on my old Sahara. I might start a GoFundMe page to get another one.

And it comes in the "Spice" color, which would look great on a Sahara!

Soft tops aren’t that hard to install. I can’t imagine why anyone who is physically capable, not doing it themselves.

I'm old and fat and it took me under an hour to remove my hard top and install the Bestop Trek Top. I've run it for most of the summer, and this winter, when I get back to where my hard top is stored, it's going up for sale. I'd sell the hard doors with it if I could find a set of stock 1/2 doors to replace them with.

thanks for posting this...I had originally rejected/not even consider a "spice" color, but looking into it further, that is the color I opted for and it looks really good with the metallic dark green.
