TJ's with 2.5 over 100k. Am I buying problems

I owned a 1995 YJ in the past but don't know much about the TJ's. What are the high mileage TJ's with 125k plus miles worth, if the body is in good shape and the frame is not rusted to heavy? Anything that I should be looking for on the TJ's ? Is the running gear about gone with that mileage on it? I am looking for a stock TJ with 2.5 4 cylinder. I had the 2.5 in my YJ but it was a low mileage Jeep with only 37k when I bought it, so it was trouble free for most of the time I owned it. Any advise would be appreciated.

Thanks

My 97 TJ has 109k on it and no problems with the clutch or gears--the 4x4 light on dash is out but all the shifting works good---and adding, my YJ's engine died at 103k and the clutch went soon after--I love the ride and handeling of the TJ more but I miss the YJ, BUY WHAT YOU FEEL!!!--- In the end, something will go wrong (it is a JEEP) and will be fixed.

I'm up to 135K on my 4 banger and it's still running very strong, it doesn't eat a drop of oil either. As long as you keep it maintained it should run for a good long time.

I bought my 99 wit 179,xxx on the clock. She has 182,xxx now, shes a little tired but she gets the job done. I wouldn't pay too much for it, but i wouldn't stay away because of the milage.

After 100,000 miles, the 2.5L gets tired. Will it last 125,000, 150,000, or more? Who knows, but history says you are on barrowed time with the 2.5L at 150,000. The 4.0L has no problems with 200,000 plus miles.

the 2.4 is using the neon engine right?

so that means parts are also modable

Common mods to a 2.5L involve a V-8

The 2.5 is just as reliable as the 4.0. Excellent, tough engines!

More of the minivan/liberty/larger car engine. The 2.4 wasn't used in a regular Neon, but the SRT4 uses a toughened up version of it.

Funny how we ***** about the JK having a minivan engine when TJ's had them too.

There is nothing wrong with the 2.4. My sister's friend sold his 97 with 200k for $4k. Still running like a champ, no oil problems or anything.

I just took my 2.5L out with 160,000 on it, it ran great when I took it out, I only took it out to put a stroker in.

The 2.5 is essentially AMC 4.2L design with 2 cylinders cut off from it.
