Savvy Under Armor

Savvy Off Road is about to finally release the long awaited Under Armor. We want to release the first few to existing customers so we can get feedback on the installation and fit. You will need to be ready to install right away.

Savvy Under Armor is a complete system to protect the engine, transmission and transfer case. The kit will include a 1” motor mount kit, 1.25” body lift, exhaust hanger, low profile transmission mount, two cross members and the formed aluminum under armor.

Savvy Under-wares! It's about time!

zachbh 06-06-2010 10:09 PM

Awww damn, I'm not an existing customer per say, but I'd gladly upgrade my gas tank skid/tail lights if I could test this out! Looks nice

LuckRider 06-06-2010 10:10 PM

What are the two tubes for in the middle?

Apex 06-06-2010 10:11 PM

I would call you if I wasn't an RE LA owner.

Unless you want me to install that sweet piece on my mom's 99 Sport with the 4.0, 32rh, D30, D44 :2thumbsup: I would gladly let her rock some sweet aluminum.

Unlimited04 06-06-2010 10:11 PM

DAMN! that thing is wicked SEXY! so you can remove the skid and keep the crossmembers in place to hold up the trans/t-case?

rkwfxd 06-06-2010 10:13 PM

Wow. Way to raise the bar guys. Great job. If I had not taken a 25% cut in pay this year I would be all over that as well as your gas tank skid.

Oh well, it gives me something to shoot for when the economy and my pay check recover.

Those are for the trans mount.

SuperWade2 06-06-2010 10:16 PM

Note to self: Build time machine...go back to 2007 and stop self from buying RE Long Arm, come back and give Gerald a call since you'll then be able to use this awesome Savvy Under Armor!

P.S. Also go back to New Years Eve 2008 tell self to start drinking water and stop drinking booze after the 12th tequila shot, you idiot!

Congrats fella's... :cheers2:

Looks great and I'm sure will perform even better! :2thumbsup:

Yes the aluminum sections are not required for the drive train to function. How many times have you got everything back together and realized you missed something and have to take it apart again! Now you've done your mods and go take it for a spin befor you install the under armor.

Thanks,

Gerald

Night Wolf 06-06-2010 10:21 PM

Ah man! This was next on my list, but I got a good deal on an RC 3.25" lift, which I installed.... now I'd need SYE, driveshaft and adjustable rear upper CA..... looks like I'll have to hold off a bit. I've been very happy with the Savvy gas tank skid tho!

mrblaine 06-06-2010 10:23 PM

To further explain a bit, we want early adopters to help us with the fitment issues we know are coming so we can keep tolerances as tight as possible an still get them to fit everyone's rig.

This particular version will not fit Rubicons or 97-02's, so bear that in mind. That version is forthcoming with all the haste we can muster and please make that distinction when you talk with Gerald.

We will also be using you early adopters to help us refine the installation instruction which should be long and complex and need a lot of clarification to get this installed as easily as possible.

Savvy 06-06-2010 10:28 PM

This is not an easy installation by any means. Unless your Blaine. It does require an SYE and adjustable control arms to set your pinion angles. Forgot to mention a raised exhaust bracket is also included.

I understand the pre 2003 issues thanks to the transmission, but will it not fit a Rubi because of the pumps, or the case itself? Is it just that the case needs more room thanks to its size, or is it that there is a shape issue?

J-Mox 06-06-2010 10:41 PM

Looks nice! I'm sure it will sell well. If the quality of this is anywhere near the gas tank skid of yours, there will be very few fitment issues! Good luck

RubiconRazorbac 06-06-2010 10:44 PM

Looks great guys. I'll be in for the Rubi version.

Email sent.

As Dave from Rob's Offroad in Portland (and I) will be doing the install, you knowthat you will have plenty of pic's and feedback.

Ah, just as a mere formality, what is the price? (not that it matters)

lumpster 06-06-2010 10:57 PM

any pics of the transmission mount and exhaust mount?

How thick are the aluminum skids?

dragginwagon406 06-06-2010 10:58 PM

At first, I was like :D and sent an e-mail.

Then I read this

and I was like :(

97-02 will be done soon enough I guess.

Bennettj13 06-06-2010 11:03 PM

I still think it should be called Under-Wares. And will continue to refer to it as such.

Wish I could run it, but then I'd have to re-do trusses, new frame side brackets and all that other crap. I'd rock the **** out of it if I could though.

UTWeezul 06-06-2010 11:11 PM

Can't wait to see a write up on this installation! I hate having to put everything back on just to test something out and then have to remove the skid to do more work. Having a trans cross-member would be sweet! :2thumbsup:

This version of Under Armor will work on the 97-02 just fine. The difference is the 97-02 and manuals will be getting extra clearance as we can move everything up further than the autos.

Email me and I'll put you on the list! We might decide that a few people who really want and need them can install one of these!

LuckRider 06-06-2010 11:17 PM

Gerald.... isn't Under Armor Trademarked or registered or something?

As clothing!

LuckRider 06-06-2010 11:20 PM

Sweet... I don't know anything about trademarks or copyrights or that sort of legal stuff.

Still no answer about the Rubi, case or pump?

lumpster 06-06-2010 11:22 PM

it is a catchy name!! look at the clothing company, they make a great product and their stuff sells like hot cakes!

Already e-mailed.

For what it is worth, already have 1.25" BL and 1" MML(I realize it will need to be replaced) too.

I'm going to strongly urge the early adopters to use all of our components to see how they work. That's the whole purpose of using early adopters so we can make any necessary changes to the full production runs.

If keeping some of your components that you've already purchased is important to you, please bow out of the early adopter program and wait until we get the production going that will have deletions available for folks with existing stuff they'd like to keep.

I don't know yet. Tomorrow we'll put the whole thing on the scale.

I'm guessing 50 lbs?

Tinga 06-07-2010 12:25 AM

Maybe by the time this gets put into full production and the kinks are out I might have enough $$$ to get one LOL
