Was SKIS (Sentry Key Immobilizer System) activated in the previous PCM, gray transponder key?

  • If yes, the security key stored in the SKIM (module) needs to be programmed into the new PCM.
  • If no, the new PCM already had SKIS activated and cannot be used.
All Jeep PCMs are SKIS capable but the system is not activated unless the engine is started with the module plugged in. If the SKIM is plugged in, it sends a security key (4-digit pin) to the PCM. If the pin has not been programmed into the PCM, the PCM will shut the engine off after 2 seconds.

Technically, if your Jeep previously used SKIS, you could have unplugged the module until the new PCM was programmed with the security key. If you have already started the Jeep though, SKIS has since been activated in the new PCM and you will not be able to remove this feature or drive.

Mobile locksmiths use DRBIII scanners to program new keys so they may be able to program the SKIM pin into your PCM. If they cannot help, the dealership is your only option.
