Replacing a Sentry Key

The internal components of my Sentry Key push-button mechanism thingy were lost. Somehow, the screw came undone, the plastic case popped open, and the actual guts fell out and I have no clue how it happened.

Anyway, how much of a hassle is it going to be to replace it? I'm not even sure how it works. I'm sure they'll have to program it to my Jeep, right? Price?

It takes 2 working Sentry keys to be able to program a new key yourself. Directions are in the owner's manual. Otherwise, you will need to take it to a dealer where they will sell / cut a new key and then program it. I've seen prices vary by dealership on other postings here, but $100 seems to be the average for programming. When I bought my 2004 used, I bought a 3rd key (my wife tends to lose keys) and programmed it according to the manual to avoid ever having to shell out the $100 (that's what I was quoted) to the dealer for programming. I think I paid about $35 for the key. Good luck.

as long as you have the FCC code number from the key it should be able to be programmed with no problem.

Try this, the key is cheap. Have all three of you keys and do it yourself, it is real easy and takes about 5 minutes.
