Removing jugs from stock bumper...

Total noob here so bear with me. Just wondering if the jugs can be popped on and off or if I take them off are they off for good? Also when you take them off do you guys cap the ends with something, mod it or leave it open?

There are torx screws to remove and then the milk jugs slide right out of the bumper. You can put them back on if you want, no damage is done to the bumper.

You can leave the bumper un-capped, or you can purchase bumped end caps which came stock on 2006 SE and X model Wranglers:

I took mine off, they just bolt on with some torx screws, so long as theres no rust (the jugs have little metal spots for the bolts to grab) then its as easy as removing anything else that has screws.

I keep mine off though cuz its the closest thing to looking like an agressive rock bumper when your flat broke like me!

I feel ya bro. I've had mine since August and I'm itching to mod it but family comes first.

A good way to remove them permanently is with a firm kick from a heavy boot.

A lot of people (myself include) take the front ones off but leave the back ones on. For one, the back isn't as pretty without them as the front it. Secondly, they do offer some protection from rocks on the trail or shopping carts.

I've heard rumor that some Jeepers won't wave if they see the milk jugs on the front bumper! That's not nice, I always wave!

Cheers ! M2

I got the end caps from the local dealership. They were $3.60 each IIRC. Here are the part numbers for the end caps:

Front: 55078138AA
Rear: 55078139AA

You will need two each.

When you go to install them, take the milk jugs off, and using a flat head screwdriver, pop the nutserts off of the milk jugs, just rest them over the end caps, and carefully put them in the bumper. When they are lined up, tighten the screws on at a time and then once you have the end caps aligned, tighten them all the way.

Good luck! It took me maybe 20 minutes to get them all installed (mostly fighting with the nutserts).

THANKS! I'm calling my local dealer right now.

But without them how will your Jeep float in case of a flood or water fording incident?

Or a street sign!!! The neighborhood watch sign worked the best for me, although the speed limit sign didn't do too bad on the driver's side...

I took the front ones off but left the back to plug the hole it leaves behind. Also, I hear they have tremendous resale value..
