I'm not going to comment on the bolt type, but if you're worried about it, you can get a factory bolt from the dealer. If you ask for one from a 2001+ TJ it should be hex head instead of the torx. I believe the torx bolt has been discontinued.

And for good reason. It's not easy getting a T55 torx socket in there with the gas tank skid taking up real estate.

Not at all. I also believe (without any empirical evidence) that the large back face of the head and lack of a washer makes the torx bolt more prone to seizing. I cut one out of my front track bar mount with an angle grinder about 3 weeks ago.
