I used to put some permatex around the seal to make sure it was good. :-/

That's what I was taught by the foreman at least. Never had a problem with them leaking again.

When I rebuilt my engine, I installed a connection in the exhaust pipe about 18" in front of the catalytic converter. Disconnect the pipe at the header and this new connection and the pipe is gone, completely out of the way.

:When heading out on a 2 hour trip in 2007, my RMS started leaking. I only had about 15k-20k on it. I was all nervous because I was not sure what was leaking. I did an oil changed and it has not leaked since. I used the exact same kind of oil and filter. I have also been under there quite a bit lately and with 47k on it has not leaked since

Do you need to pull the transmission to change a TJ rear main? I haven't done mine because I had to pull the trans on my LS1 Camaro and wasn't looking forward to that on the Jeep.

Mine's gonna have to start leaking a whole lot more before I replace it. It puts a drop or two on the garage floor every so often and I check the level ever week or so.

I never come even close to adding between oil changes so I really hate to tear into it at the moment.

Maybe a project for a rainy weekend but not now.

I need to fix mine too, been leaking for about 3 months.

However, the FSM says it's a one piece, remove the tranny, pry out old seal, slip in new seal.

Now I'm hearing it's a two piece, drop the pan to replace.

Either way is fine with me, how do I know if I have a one or two piece?

2006 4.0, BTW.

Which engine? I do believe the 4 cylinder has a one piece seal. But the 6 cylinder has a two piece seal.

Sorry, I edited my post, 4.0.

I may have been looking in the wrong section of the FSM, but I could've sworn I was looking int he right place.
