I have oil leaking down the right side of my 4.0L inline six, it’s a 98’, The leak looks like it’s Coming from where the head meets the block. I was thinking my head gasket it bad, anyone have any other ideas?
One common issue with the 4.0 is that the valve cover likes to loosen up, especially in the back. Tighten all the valve cover bolts, wipe off the oil from your engine, and observe for a couple of days.
Check where the oil filter ,or any other mounts. A messy filter removal can look like most any type of leak. I'd degrease the area or better yet the whole engine first, before you start to throw money at it to confirm where the oil is from. The previous mentioned valve cover can look like all sorts of different issues too.
