NSG370 B&M shifter

Hey Guys, new to the TJ section but just bought an 05 rubicon and wanted to post up results from my B&M shifter install. B&M lists their nsg370 shifter as fitting the 05-06 tj and technically it does but here is the issue. First off, it fits the transmission just fine and even has an improved vent design (though I would still reccomend extending it). The issue is that it does not have the bend necessary to properly locate the shifter. The original tj unit has a z shaped bend that locates the shifter almost centered in the lower boot but the new one only has one bend and will not allow proper shifter placement. You WILL have shifter interference if you don’t modify the shifter. Why I did was remove the rubber cover from the old shifter assembly, cutoff the z shaped lever right where it straightens out where the rubber connects. I then cutoff the B&M in the same spot and welded the z lever onto the B&M. It was actually quite easy. I will say, this fixed my problem of popping out of first gear. Let me know if you have any questions. Here are some pictures:

Clearance issues how? Were you popping out of first due a BL and/or tummy tuck?

I am getting ready to do a 2.5" lift with a 1" BL on mine and was warned that with the nsg370, I might experience some popping out of gear and/or other shifter clearance issues.

Thanks

If you notice one of the pics you see where the B&M shifter sits in comparison to the inner boot. Unless you plan on cutting the inner boot opening you will not be able to shift into 2,4,6 or will not fully engage the gears. My shifter was worn and the detent rocker that holds it in gear was worn badly enough to not keep it in gear. Nothing was making contact since the original inner boot was practically gone. I don’t have a good feeling about these nsg370s though. I feel the ax15 was much less problematic.

I read similar reports that would indicate that a lower transmission would have this problem but I highly doubt it. Just take your console and inner boot off and check out the room under there. I don’t run a bl but wouldn’t hesitate to for the transmissions sake

Thanks for the info.

(P.S.- for that price, you must really like the B&M)

For that price, you might be able to put in an AX15.

OP - So, does it actually help with the popping out of gear issue?

So, did you try just bending the shifter first?

I am considering a NSG370 (six speed) to an AX15 (5 speed) swap and noticed one seller of remans includes a "bendable shifter" with the tranny...now I know why!
