Sorry, you are correct, not a through hole. I just finished my rear main seal and "have been" it that area very recently. Either way, I don't think it's real picky if you did want to try a tap, even if you did have to make a trough hole.

Good luck on your leak correcting. For the past several months I've been all around and under mine fixing leaks.

Mongo, I find it hard to believe that it's a "special", and like I said above, I've been in this area a lot lately. I just took my screw out, it's not Machine threads, rather, more like a lag bolt, or large sheet metal bolt.

I compared it to a 5/16 lag bolt in my hardware bin. Almost identical, my lag bolt threads were just a little coarser.

Generally metric bolts and nuts are pretty much standard and available in most auto parts and hardware stores..... IF needed to get online.

2j, thank you. My leak appears to be coming from inside the cover...I have a feeling this is going to exceed my abilities.
