Looking to lift my 03 tj - need info

OK first im a complete nooblet to lifting - I have a 03 tj 4cylinder - 5 speed. It is not a daily driver - sees a fair amount of offroad but is 100% stock with 30k miles, only mod has been after market wheels and 31x10.5 15s . i would like to get a lift on my jeep , 33x12.5 would be great but in reading about 3.5-4 lift include ALOT of things that are above me ie. having to extend brake lines, sway bars, ect.... i can not dump a ton of money at this project but would love to have a more aggresive look to my rig, although the offroad i have done, the factory set up has been fine. Any ideas or simular project experience would be much appreciated!!!!!

I might have an idea or two.......

To properly fit 33's you need 3-4" lift. A Rubicon Express BB and the ever-popular Performance Accessories BL combo only yields 2.75". Just not enough. The 2.25" BB and JKS 1.25" BL yields 3.5".

Sometimes, a BB will cause driveline vibes. A MML solves this. Anyway, a BL and MML go well together. Doing the BL alone would have necessitated modifying the fan shroud due to the AC lines, AND I would probably have to drop the TC to correct vibes. Ergo, the BL/MML combo was a no brainer.

All BB's cause the rear axle to shift. The RE trackbar bracket is an easy fix and a lot cheaper than an adjustable trackbar.

Build parts
2.25" Budget Boost
Skyjacker Hydro shocks
Rubicon Express rear trackbar relocation bracket
1.25" JKS body lift
1" JKS motor mount lift
33x10.5x15 BFG MT's

2.25" BB w/skyjacker hydros - $225, 4 wheel customs
Rear track bar bracket - RE $70, 4 wheel customs
1.25" BL and 1" BMML from JKS - Redrock 4x4, $178 free shipping
33x10.5x15 BFG MT, 4 DELIVERED for $667 from www.tirepackage.com.

I will add extended discos sometime in the future. Probably JKS Quicker Discos. Today, the stock ones are on.

The shocks are HYDROS....softer than stockers...but tend to rust from road salt, so I painted them black before the install. Just be sure to sand them before painting, or the spray paint won't stick.

Results
Total Lift at seat = 5 1/2 inches
Rides like a Cadillac
Gets 14.8 mpg
Cruises at 70 mph, 2,900 rpm
Plenty of power
Slight hum from wheels (they're MT's)
Stopping takes a little more planning

I agree - a 2" BB and a 1" body lift will fix you up without a lot of problems.

Also keep in mind that stock wheels do have too much backspacing for bigger wider tires. You will need wheel spacers or wheels with less backspacing than stock...
Backspacing moves the tires in or out. Stock is usually 5-5.5" - the tires will rub. You need a 3.75 - 4.25" backspacing.

Thanks ,
Its exactly what i had in mind. By the way love the rig you have - is almost exactly what im looking for and the price is much better than the $1200+ just for the lift kit on a pure 3.5-4" !!!!!!!!!!!

Good catch Otis, 10.50" tires will fit fine on the stock rims. 12.50" tires will need spacers or new rims with more backspacing.
