LED Turn Signal Issue

I just bought an '04 TJ after being out of a Jeep for a few years and it has a little turn signal issue. The head lights and front turn signals are LED (rear lights are stock). Both turn signals flash quickly when they're on, as if a bulb were burnt out. When I turn on the headlights, the dash turn signal indicators both stay on steady. The guy I bought it from says that it is because of the LEDs and that it's a simple fix with a new relay. I looked in both fuse/relay boxes and don't see any turn signal relays. Any ideas? Thanks!

Turn signal relay is in the steering column. Two screws on the bottom of the column to remove the covers and the relay will be right on top plugged in to the multi-function switch.

Thank you. So is there a specific replacement relay that I should put in there?

Yes, there is one that has more resistance and compensates for the LEDs. I forget the number off the top of my head, but use of the search function should find it as it has been discussed many times. If I recall correctly the one in my jeep now is made by Gold Coast, but I think there are ones available at local parts stores.

Ok thank you guys for the help. I installed the new relay which appeared to resolve the issue. Now I have a new problem. I replaced the brake/turn signal bulbs to LED and now both turn signal indicators stay on solid when I have the headlights on. The turn signals themselves appear to be working normally now. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks in advance

Aaaaand now more problems. When I use either turn signal, the dash lights flash as well. But when I have the headlights on and use the turn signal, this does not happen. Any ideas?

Don't know about Jeep but other models have strange problems when mixing LED & regular bulbs. If it is easy to do, you might refit the bulbs back to stock and see if it cures your problem.

Especially because the jeeps use a funky system for the turn/marker lights on the front fenders. Those are wired across the running light wires and the turn signal wires. Notice how they blink alternately with the front turn signals (stock)?

I have the same issue with only LED turn signals. I used the EP26 relay and the signal lights on the dash stay on when headlights are on. It's been that way for years, but I'm now chasing down a rear turn signal and side marker lights not working issue. I'm guessing it's the relay, but wondering if there is another replacement to solve both issues.

I thought the 01-06 took the 5 pin EP27 mounted in the steering column?
My 1999 has the 4 pin EP26 that's mounted under the dash.

Expediency is no excuse for substandard work!

LED Signalight bulbs

I found the problem to be the 3157 LED bulbs. The park and signal use the same LEDs whereas in a incandescent bulb these are isolated. When you turn on the park lights the turn signal bulbs in the instrument panel light up because current is flowing back through the bulb back into the signal light circuit. The solution is better LED bulbs if they exist.

I would like to know if anyone has had success with the 3157 LED bulbs they have had installed on a TJ. What make and model are they?
