Key Release button replacement

Hello all,

On my new to me TJ Rubicon, the key release button is missing and stuck in a downward position. Has anyone replaced key release button mechanism? I can start the vehicle and just pull out the key and leave it running. I'd like to get it fixed.

What parts will i need to fix this?

Thanks!

The OEM option for the release button would be to replace the steering column, as parts weren't sold separately.

Looking at an ignition barrel replacement video on YT it looks like the button mount is into the lower part of the button so it seems to be sitting roughly where it should. It's possible you might just need to bend the metal so the mount sits level and replace the button on the key release.

The fact you can remove the key with the ignition on is due to the lock barrel being worn. Dorman do a replacement with instructions to set it up to match your key.

Have a similar issue the key will go past lock (off) and into accessory position without button press,... Looked at Dorman product and wondered if it will actually be a fix for the problem... Any body tried it?
