I'm having a similar problem and think this may be the solution. Is there any way to visually/mechanically tell if the ignition switch acuator is bad?
thanks

Very simple repair. For mine (and I assume other jeeps) I needed a tamper proof torx set (torx set with the hole in the middle)

Good luck

Question: How do you separate the actuator pin from the ignition?

Ok.....So I took apart the ignition configuration. My ignition switch actuator pin is NOT broken. I CANNOT start up the jeep with a screwdriver either so I think I am ruling out ignition problems up to that point? I"m not really sure where to go from here. My starter is good, battery is good, starter relays good, all fuses good, wire from battery to starter good, no reading on meter from the wire that goes from the colenoid/starter to the ignition, but the wire seems to be ok (no visual deficiencies). Does anyone have any ideas???? I neeeeeed my jeeeeeep.

Same problem, simple fix

I had the EXACT same problem with my '05 Wrangler X. Dealer said steering column needed to be replaced - about $1000. I visited this forum and thanks to everyone's input I ended up getting a new ignition actuator from RockAuto for about 30 bucks, plus maybe $10 for express shipment. Worked like a charm.
