Fuel system problem?

A few weeks ago my 2006 TJ (4.0 L) turned on the Check Engine light with the code “air in the fuel line”. A mechanic told me to replace the tank fuel cap which I did. Now I see a strange thing. The Jeep runs all right with a full tank. When I leave it overnight with the tank 3/4 or less full, it turns on the Check Engine light at start, it sounds much louder and the idling RPM is a bit higher. If I fill it up and reset the light (by disconnecting the battery for 15 minutes), it is all right again as long as I keep refueling above 3/4 with the hot engine. But once I let it cool down with a tank not full, it starts all over again. Any ideas please?

What was the code? P****? The only thing i can think of is 2 things. Your fuel system is a returnless system and the regulator is in the tank, it might be somthing to do with that. Id check the EVAP canister for cracked or damaged hoses first. If somebody told you it could be the cap and it wasn't, its probably a vacuum line to the canister.
