Finally finished up my front end transformation.

I’ve been working to get my winch mounted on my TJ and this is what I came up with after going through my scrap metal pile. Total cost for shackles and paint, aproximantly $35. The rest of it was cut out of scraps I had laying around.

Nice job. I hope that big winch is secure.

hard to tell from the pic, but 3/16s steel is often not strong enough to hold a winch.
make sure its safe b4 u do a tough pull.

The winch carrier is made from 5” c channel. It has 1/4” x 2” angle welded on each side to bolt down to the factory bumper bolts. Underneath, it has 1-1/8” steel plate that I cut in to 2” strips to make my shackle plates. Each of them have 27” of welded surface holding them into the c channel. This afternoon, I have to go recover a Yukon that’s buried to the frame in mud. Should find out tonight how strong it is. I’ll probably have to chain off to another truck to be able to pull it out. We shall see.

Guess that all depends on how I use it. I’ve not been sold on the rope replacements. They require more maintenance than the cable. I do t use mine often at all, and when I do, it’s never a hard core pull. Guess I just prefer the cable to having to keep the rope clean.

Very well. Had to chain off to a tree. Also I had a bad connection on my battery so it ended up melting the lead on my battery clamp. Ended up having to jump my jeep and drive home off the alternator. I replaced the clamp yesterday.
