Doing some Whining..

Started hearing some whining about a week ago. Sounds like road (tire) noise but only happens when letting off the accelerator or in neutral while moving. It got worse fast! I'm thinking throw out bearing but want your opinion first.
97 tj 2.5l 5speed 280,000 mi.
Thank you!

Rear pinion. Either bearing, chipped teeth, or... low on oil (I've seen it twice now)

Remove the rear driveshaft and drive the Jeep using the front axle. If the noise goes away when doing this, that'd point pretty solid toward the rear axle being the cause.

U joints can do this also. Removing the rear drive shaft and shifting jeep into 4x4 and drive.
If the noise goes away it could be the shaft or diff.
Check fluid in the rear and transfer case..
I seen the front shaft make a noise and it was only noticeable rolling with engine off. I get up to speed on a quite road with no others around for a bit. Turn engine off and let it roll. The things you can hear with no running engine...
