Do I have to use a Daimler Chrysler home brew?

Starting to get some supplies together to do the SYE install and went to Autozone for some of them. The Jeep manual says to use ATF-4, man at the ‘Zone says he doesn’t have it and I gotta get it from stealership, it’s their special formula. WTH!, is he correct?
ATF-3 is a no-no?

Thanks for any info.

I've been hearing that any ATF will work. But I'm not sure if that's correct.

While you are at it, why not put in some good quality synthetic like Mobil 1 ATF? It meets all standards, and since you don't change the fluid very often it might just be worth the extra few bucks.....
