The front Dana 30 is a non c-clip design and 1989 and older Dana 35 axles did not use c-clips either. Based on that I can believe 1989 and older D35 lockers can be installed into a D30. But 1990 and newer Dana 35 axles are c-clip designs which may make 1990 and newer c-clip style lockers incompatible with the non-c-clip Dana 30. Just guessing on that but...

When you have a choice, buy American made.

Nothing like waking up an old thread. But since we're talking about it and I'm curious, Jerry, couldn't you use the c-clipped D35 locker in the non-c-clipped D30, just without the c-clips, cause there's none there to use? I see why you probably couldn't go the other way d30 to d35, but just not installing the c-clips seems like it wouldn't bother anything.

I dunno, which is why I ended my post on that subject with a 'just guessing on that...'.

Gotcha. I was kind of hoping you'd know. Oh well. I do know that I wish I had known this when I had my XJ. I had a friend who wanted to give me a locker for a D35, but I had a chryco 8.25 in my XJ so I passed on it. Had I known it might work in my D30, I would have snatched it up.

It works fine. A Dana 35 locker also supposedly will work in a 8.25 27 spline. C clip or no c clip doesn't matter for the Dana 30

97 XJ on 4Ds.

Unfortunately, my XJ burned to the ground (kind of) and I'm now the owner of a '03 Rubicon
