D35 broken axle! Help

So I found out today that I don't really have a d44 I have a d35. And I broke it, which is really easy to do on 35's. Well I got some new shafts headed back up the mountain, jacked it up, took off the diff cover found the lock screw, and then didn't have to tool to get it off...

I beleive it's a 1/4" 12 point. Can anyone confirm this? Also I saw that two spider gears were broken. I just want to make it back down the mountain, which won't be as intense. Will I be ok to get down or do I need to replace those too before I put it back together?

Thanks for any help.

You're not going very far without grenading stuff further if you don't replace the spider gears as well. Are you sure you broke an axle shaft AND broke the spider gears?

Hey guys I should have said two teeth were broken off of the spider gears. They two broken teeth were on opposite gears.

The tool to remove the centerpin bolt is a 1/4" 12point wrench.

If you wheel on a d35 with track lock forget pressing the brake to try to get more traction.

Also if you wheel with a d35 it would be good for you to carry:
2qt of gear oil
rtv
extra shafts
1/2 or 13mm wrench and/or sockets
1/4" 12pt wrench
lug wrench
Jack
tq wrench
5/8 socket
prybar
long screwdriver
rags

and that's about it I think.

On the d35 if you break a shaft your not going far until your tire comes off. From what I understand a d44 could possibly limp back but the wheel bearing will be toast before long. Of course it will be a bit harder to break a d44 than a d35.

I'm going build a d44 from scratch, 4.56 gears, auburn ected, superior shafts, new bearings etc. I'm thinking about. Writing a "how-to" break a d35 and how to fix a broken shaft as soon as the d44 is ready to go in.
