d30 for 44 swap, plus bb questions

my daughter was in an accident and bent the d44 in her 03 rubi. haven't been able to source a reasonable housing and her budget is small, so i am thinking a d30 to get her back on the road. new control arms and steering tie rods have been purchased. i suspect new rotors will be needed also. are the calipers the same? did the 4cl come with 4:10's? was also thinking a 2" bb lift and shocks while it is all torn down that far. anything i need to know? additional parts? suggestions?

Your TJ D44 brakes are identical to those made for D30's so they'll bolt right up. Everything outside of their center pumpkins is identical.

When you have a choice, buy American made.

Did she bend the actual axle housing/tubes? Have any pics? I'd be more worried about frame damage if she hit something hard enough to bend the axle. It would be a good idea to do a bb lift and shocks well you're swapping axles. Some 4 cyl came with 4.10s, you will have to look at the tag of the new axle you buy to be able to tell the gear ratio.

frame seems ok. made a couple of cross measurements and all were good. she bent the right side tube at the 'C' end. is re tubing that side an option? or are these parts as unicorn as an entire housing seems to be?

Finding a replacement Rubi D44 front only is unlikely. They almost always trade as a set and they trade at stupid prices.

I would source an HP30 from an XJ with 4.10 gears if you decide to swap to a D30, probably easier to find that a 4 cyl TJ axle.
You can use car-part.com to locate one.

I don't know if they are still available, but for a while you could get just the Rubicon axle housings from the Chrysler parts department. Both my front and rear Rubi housings were purchased this way. I may still have the tags with the part numbers somewhere.

They are basically the same, except that pre-2000 the XJ's are high pinion. But I thinking finding a 4.10 geared XJ will be just as hard as finding a TJ one. Most of the XJ ones you'll find will be 3.55.

Just get on car-part.com and do a search. I found a 4.10 hp30 locally through that site, as well as my replacement frame, my superduty tons, and a few smaller parts.
