in the end how much more are those than actually fabbing everything yourself?

Here are some rough top of my head estimates I have for my axles

Dana 60 $650 Included a F250 truck bed for my dad
ARB 850
Gears 200
Install kit 120
King pin rebuild kits $70
U joint $80
Spindle bearings $25
Hub rebuild kits $90
Stock shafts $0

Still need at least one new hub $35 for a used one
Still need either new knuckles or to repair mine Free or $500

14 bolt $100
ARB $850
Gears $225
Install Kit $100
Hub bearings $75
Disk Brake kit $300
Diff cover for shave $100
Ni99 Welding rods for shave were a Gift but usually $50

Not to mention $100+ in tools for special sockets, larger sockets, wire wheels flapper disks and at least $50 in brake cleaner and I havent touched any steering components which are going to require a lot of work.

So to answer your question involving complicated addition and subtraction, they are a lot cheaper. Why? because my labor is free and I have a limited life time warrany on all my work... for myself

Now if your just looking for a trail rig, then you could do it for about 1/2 the cost. Heck as my friend said regarding the pic below.
