Bikini Top Frustration

No - not because I知 overweight and look terrible in a 2-piece. Because every year when I remove the full top and install the bikini, I知 irritated by its fitment to the header bar.

Bestop no-drill header. Bestop strapless (safari) bikini. The header channel on the bikini top doesn稚 fit into the outermost edges of the header bar very well at all. This causes it to flare out like wings. No amount of fiddling will get it to fit any better. At least not that I致e found.

Has anyone else experienced this and come up with a solution? Is there a better bikini top / header option out there?

Thanks in advance!

Yeah mine never got well. It came off the bar a few times on the highway, not fun.

After a few weeks in the Southern California summer heat, it doesn't fit perfect, but it stays secure. I am about to put it back on for the summer and have no worries about it coming off.

Mine tends to stick out about an inch, but it has never even come close to coming off. I pretty much just ignore it.

I've always used the drill in channel. easier on and off, stays on with the factory soft top and no fly away corners

Same here. While the drill type header is made only for 97 to 02 TJs it can be made to fit 03 and newer too. It's a MUCH easier style header though it requires a matching drill style bikini or safari top. I ran one on my previous 97 TJ and run one on my current 04 TJ too.

Sometimes those bikini tops just don't fit right around the top edges.

I have that top, except mine was made by Viking, before they sold the design to Rampage (or whatever the official way Rampage got it). I rarely ever put the windows on, but I do always have them with me, when driving the Jeep, just in case!

Funny, I just bought the safari top for this years Moab trip. Pulled the HT for the first time since I've had it. But yes, mine was a biatch to put on. Even tho it's the smitty knock off to the best top, it was not anything like the video I watched for install! As OP said, it does'nt fit well @ the A pillar header as in the pic. Also, the dumb thing did'nt have the down straps in the rear... only shorter wrap around straps similar to a standard bikini? I made it work b/c I have a spreader bar in the rear. But if I had'nt, would have had to send it back!
Hav'nt really had it on the highway yet, so we'll see how it does at speed. Hope it does'nt have the same issues as OP. I mainly just got it for trail wheeling and not so much DD, so I guess I'll see.

Maybe next time I'm in town, I'll drop by 4whlpts and biatch at them a bit.

Thanks for the input everyone. At the very least, I知 relieved to hear I知 not the only one with this issue and it痴 not just a defect with MY setup.

To be clear - I致e never had any trouble with the top coming off or anything. It痴 just that I知 a tiny bit OCD and the edges not fitting annoys me. To my eye - it messes up the square body lines of the Jeep.

I知 considering using a small self-tapping screw at each corner to hold it down. Gotta look and see exactly what the screw would bite into when I get the header bar out of the attic this year. Otherwise, I値l just live with it fitting poorly.

Don't be so OCD, don't screw a screw into it to hold it down which will just start it rusting. If you are feeling rich some day, convert to the drill-style header and matching bikini or safari top.

I got my BesTop safari bikini approx 10 years ago and it's been off once for a few hours to do so clean-up one day maybe 5 years ago. Maybe a little more "contoured fit" than yours, but still there.

My TJ spent its childhood in flordia. The windshield frame and front grill are both pitted. My first though was rock chips, but probably caused by "love bugs".
