Alright! K&N In The Mail

Finally, my K&N is coming. I've wanted one of these things for months, but could never justify the money. I'm so excited. Just wanted to share.

Rick

Hi,

I was trying to search the boards but it's hard to search for "K&N" because the search function will not recognize words of 3 letters or less. So, I'm sure this has been discussed many times here on the board, but......Is the drop-in K&N helpful for the 6cyl. TJ? I'm just wondering because I was thinking of swapping out my OEM filter for a K&N.

Please let me know if there are links to this discussion on the board. Thank you.

Hoping to get back into the Jeep world soon.

No bashing necessary. Read and draw your own conclusions.

I've purchased 1 filter in 7 years. Yes, it was a K&N.

Oil consumption = zero

Miles driven = 132,000

Amount of dirt in my engine. Gotta be in the tons by now. I'm such a dumbarse. WOAH IS ME . I think I'm going to press the envelope and go buy a fram oil filter tomorrow.

SOOoooo.... what was the particle size concentration getting through? PM2.5- %. PM 10 - %, and > PM10 - %.

Of those sizes, which cause engine wear....any or all?

Last, how much longer will it take for my engine to die so I can justify my stroker build to my wife

See the bottom - air filter controversy.

I'll spare Jerry the expense - K&N air filters are a waste of money. The worst possible filtration combined with zero increase in performance.

Plus, you don't save any money, since a stock filter replacement cycle costs about the same total as the K&N install kit over the life of the engine.

K&N air filters are a waste, since they state the benefits are gained above 5k rpms. What does the TJ redline at? 5k rpms.

There are other mods you can do to increase MPG and performance, but any substanital HP gains are pure mechanical upgrades.

Cool, I wasn't in the mood to get into another K&N bashing thread.

LOL! My article on my web site quotes your last rant about them extensively anyway (3 paragraphs). I upgraded it following the last debate over them. Feel free to reference it when someone posts this so you don't have to post the same junk over and over.

Hey Rick, are you trying to stir up trouble?

If not, send the new one back and I'll sell you my almost new one for half price. I put it on a couple of months ago, don't realize any gain. I can hear the air intake noise a little louder though. Probably the sound of all that dirt going in.

Yep - I know K&N filters for stock TJ's are pointless. I had one for about a month and then replaced it with a stock air filter. My engine was running rich and it did not seem to affect performance at all.

Congrats....the next time you'll be this happy is when you throw it in the trash.
