4wd shifter

I just bought my Jeep about a month ago and I have noticed that the 4-wheel shifter has a tendancy to slide from 2wd toward 4hi when Driving around on pavement. Does anyone know if this is common or is this an indicator that something is loose or out of adjustment?

thanks

does the transfer case actually engage into 4wd or does the shifter just move up a little? if it acutall moves up and engages the tranfer case, then yes, something is either too tight or too loose and needs fixing.

I don't believe that the transfer case is engaging. I'll have to look into into it more.

Maybe my jeep is just trying to tell me to get off the pavement and use the 4wd

Not trying to steal the thread but I had a related problem this weekend while wheeling around. When trying to shift back into 4hi from 4lo the shifter didnt want to move. Had to manhandle it a bit to get into 4hi. Jeep was in neutral at a stand still so I'm a bit confused. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I had the reverse problem. Going over bumps in 4hi it would come out and knock like a madman. I put my jeep in yesterday for the rear main seal and this http://www.4x4xplor.com/T-CaseTSB.html

I'll let you know how it works out.
