This all sounds like a pain in the a**. I have a 98 with mechanical sliders (no A/C) and I'm contemplating doing a swap over to the 99+ style knobs when I add A/C down the road. Anyone heard how reliable those new knobs are compared to the sliders?

I'm suffering from the dreaded no defrost.

But without AC I see no need to ever change the setting. All I need to do is get hot air to come out of the defrost and floor simultaneously and perminately.

Is there any way to get that blend door to open for the defrost and lock it in place?

Think Green recycle your YJ's sway and trac bars today!

well got the control arms fixed but now it will blow out the vents for awhile and then starts making a whistling noise and will stop blowing out the vents (seems like it's when i'm on the gas pedal) then it seems when I let up on it, it stops whistling and starts blowing out the vents again. at idle it acts like it supposed to blowing out the vents ?????

You have a vacuum leak somewhere.

When it defaults to defrost only in low engine vacuum situations like accelerating or going up a hill the leak is usually at the vacuum reservoir in the fender well under the battery. Check the hose connection there.

Thanks.

Now I have a new issue.......decided to recharge AC yesterday and no matter what fan speed setting or Hvac setting it will run, then shut down, then run, then shut down. I changed blow motor and resistor cpl months ago. Has been working just fine. I had just washed it before charging the AC not sure if that's related.

Nevermind, found it

https://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f9/wh...y-die-3295145/

Freaking vdo motor, replaced it just as a preventative maintenance on a 20 yr old motor when I replaced resistor and cleaned out trash from air box. I kept original when I replaced it. Pulled vdo put original back in.......all fixed!

I have read where the VDO replacements (& others, probably repackaged VDOs) cut in & out only on high speed but this is the first I've seen where they cut out & in on all speeds. Good info, thanks for posting results.

Edit: I see you found that one. Was going to post about that one but you found it first.

Yeah it's like once it overheated no setting or speed would change anything.

Now to try and explain it to pepboys and get a different one,,,,,,,

Read posts 64 & 69 in that link for the only brand he found that was not VDO & worked without cutting out. May need to try getting your money back & going to Advanced Auto or in posts 70 - 72, one from NAPA. Good luck.

well after removing the vacuum line from the manifold and pulling a vacuum on it I let it sit for 10min. and no drop. decided to remove the check valve and hook up the line direct to the manifold and took it for a ride. didn't fix it but it was a lot better. I blew in both sides of the check valve and both sides allowed air to pass. went to the zone and got a new one for $5.50 BINGO PROBLEM SOLVED !
