I installed the Speedhut CJ gauge the year they came out. No issues since then. In my opinion, the Speedhut CJ speedo is the best CJ specific aftermarket part to be made in recent history. They survived a 3 hour summer thunderstorm with the top off and windshield down while being towed back from the Palo Duro Jeep Jamboree near Amarillo to Missouri in 2018. Besides the speedo, clock, and tach, the other gauges in their CJ line up do not match the originals even remotely, so I used the oil and volts gauges from their Legacy line.
Hey,

I’ve only been a CJ owner for about a year and a half. Never seen the SpeedHut gauges before. I went online to check it out and wow! I’ll definitely get a set when I get to that point. A few questions.

(1) I see that you bought the tach and clock as well. Did you get the stainless steel dash with precut holes? What do you feel is the best option for dash (as mine is needing replacement)?
(2) Do you have an opinion on the chrome vs silver outer ring option?
(3) Do you know if the Painless Wiring
Harness meets the needs for easy fit with these gauges?
(4) How do you tune their brightness?

Thanks!

Here's my thread on marrying Speedhut and Painless. The gauges have a dimmer knob that requires a small hole in the dash to mount. The CJ version has a temp gauge without numbers to look like the original, but you might want to get a version with a numbered scale.

I mounted my dimmer knob on the underside lip of my dash so that I wouldn't have another hole in my dash. I mounted my tac knob right next to it as well.
One would have to look pretty had to see them from the seated position.
I would tend to agree with you on having numbers on the temp scale. (Mine is the CJ style so I never really know the true degrees.
When I did my LS swap though I picked up an OBDII WiFi reader which links to my phone and it gives me real time read outs on Temp, RPM's Horsepower, intake temp, Timing, gas mileage.... and reads codes.

Looks great Skiz! I love my 8274. When I bought mine it needed an overhaul. Great winch.

Something I have been wanting, and searching for years to find. Around here they seem to bring top dollar. With all of the missing and broken parts, I was going to pass on this one. After he messaged me a few times and dropped the price to $50 i figured id get it just to have. Sat down and loaded up a cart with all new parts, and will come in under $600 with new motor, new clutch, new lower housing, and complete rebuild.

Just can't have a real CJ without a 8274.

Took my son out for a little off road. Wasn't planning on getting muddy, but got in a place where I had little choice. It was fun and has been cleaned almost back to where it was before.

Finally got the heater box installed. What a pain it was. PO did some cobbled work that made it much more difficult than it should have been. Everything is working now though. Awaiting my defroster duct and then I can reassemble the dash.

Couple months ago noticed a distinct but random tap tap sound from new ish engine. 8k miles. Got progressively worse. Yanked it apart and yikes. Cyl 6 piston is literally toast. Time for GP hard decisions. Was a Spendy 4.6 stroker build. Builder retired and moved away... no wheeling for a while. Bummed.

Bewildered... sent oil for testing and full of aluminum and babbit...

All done, and waiting on my mounting bracket to get here.
I'm going to use all of my old solenoid and control mounts that are already mounted underhood and in cab. Just need to hook up the three wires and a ground.
