Alright, I will keep an eye on it and see how it feels in a few miles. Suspension is brand new so that could settle as well. Iíll check the angles periodically and see if it improves or worsens, but if it stays vibes free I think Iím gonna heed this advice. It will nag at me knowing in the back of my head I didnít get it just right though.

That is a good point - if you are a touch off, the suspension settling may bring it in to spec. That brings the question too - when you torqued the spring bushing shackle bolts, did you have the weight of the vehicle on it? If you had the frame supported, you may have some "preload" on the bushings. Loosen the bolts and then retorque.



Speaking of needle greasers. I need to find the right fittings to fit into the u-joints that take those needles. I put have to put a regular zerk in my one u-joint, but it gets snapped off by the "H" piece somehow. I want to put low profile zerks in there, and also on the ball joints. Anyone know where to find these?

A few places carry them...type in “zerk low profile fittings” when you search...Amazon, Walmart, Zerksplus sell them. The needle nozzle is actually easier to use the on a regular zerk fittings as well, in my opinion.

The fittings are referred to as flush grease fittings. I think Alemite makes those. there are probably other manufacturers.

Good call, Cutlass. I did have the weight of the vehicle on the springs when I torqued the shackle and spring eye bolts down. Loosening and re-torquing is worth a shot though; Iíll see if get any change out of it.

Iím seeing a decent amount of grease oozing out of the ujoints, nothing crazy but grease is working itís way out. Is that normal for new ujoints? My old ones did this but they were old. Just curious if my pinion angle could be stressing the joint and causing this to happen or itís normal.

Iíve put about 25 miles on the new driveshaft. It feels incredible going through the gears compared to before. The power transfer just feels so much smoother. Especially noticeable when going from 2nd to 3rd, itís never felt this good.

Yeah, "reset" the bushings and it might change something. If they're poly with a sleeve thru them, it probably won't matter as the sleeve allows for them to pivot. Either way, it won't hurt anything to try, but maybe 10 minutes of work.

They probably greased that shaft before shipping. Too many people probably just throw it in and run it, never thinking to grease it, causing failures under warranty. That's probably why you are getting so much out. It is normal for excess to squeeze out, even on new.

When you grease u-joints during your maintenance, you are *supposed to* grease them enough that you push the older grease out of the caps, so and contamination is cleaned out. Wipe any excess off before driving or it makes a mess under there!

As far as grease finding it's way out the U joints, it's normal, Some of it may be from action of the U joint but most of it is from centrifugal force. It's common to overgrease joints and the excess is just finding it's way out. The angle on your pinion joint is minimal compared to many installations. Yes, a properly configured and balanced drive shaft should run very smooth.

Will do. I took a much needed break from the Jeep today but will mess with my shackles tomorrow. Worth a shot for sure.

Makes sense on the u joints grease. I was greasing my old one until I saw grease come out, just wasnít sure if new ones should hold their grease better. Tom woods does grease it from the factory. Sounds like a non issue. Just being overly cautious because in the back of my head I know The angle isnít just right. See what I mean, I lose sleep over these things LOL

Thats good to hear on the angles Iím running. Itís a pretty mild lift all things considered.

Thought I would follow up with some good news. Checked my angles again today after putting about 100 miles on the new suspension and driveshaft over the last two weeks to see if there was any change. Driveshaft angle is now 18 down from 19, and the rear pinion angle went up from 12 to 14. Now when I plug the new values into the calculator on Tom Woodís site the recommendation is zero change in shim size (when I entered my original angles it said to increase shim size by 2 degrees). I am glad I waited it out and heeded advice here. I think at this point I will just leave it alone since all seems well. Thanks again for yíallís help getting me through this job. Iím really pleased with how this upgrade turned out.

Thanks man, seems that way. Just bought her a winch for all her hard work coming back to life after the accident and well under budget . Time for some trails.
