Unbelievably good product.

I'm still running one of his first prototype tops. Getting it repaired next week. My top failure resulted in a better product for the rest of ya'll who were lucky enough to get one of his tops. I expect to get many more years out of mine. Sad to hear he's no longer making them.

Tops

Hello all,

Sorry i have not been around much. Life got in the way of making tops. I ended up buying 5 acres with a 1970s home and I have been in remodel mode for a year. Just finished my attached 1600sf garage. (yes, i am a redneck)

We are hopefully starting on the bedroom addition before the first freeze and to top it off i have another baby on the way.

All that being said, If there is a enough people who want a top, I would order a roll of fabric and sew in time for spring. When i ran out of material last time i did not order any more because out of the 25+ people who emailed me only ~3 placed a real order so i never ordered another roll of fabric,,, and the machine takes up 1/4 my new wood shop.

If maybe 10 people wanted tops it would be enough to bring in roll. I have to order it from So Cal and the freight kills me.

I will crawl this thread for replies.

Anyway,, I like making them and I am happy with the positive feedback.

Chris, I want a black (not denim) one for my CJ5. Last time I emailed you, you told me about the move, and that you were getting a local gal to help with the sewing. I'm patient, after all, it took me over 20 years to get my Jeep on the road. Tell me how to get you the money.

Only need 9 more Jeepers....

I'll buy a black (preferably denim) one if 9 other people want one too.

The black denim is no longer around unless a older roll shows up somewhere. Haartz told me when best top took their fabric offshore the stopped making those denim products.

what i was using is Haartz sailcloth material. My guess is i would order black. Unless there were 10 saddle (spice) orders also.

Firegod,

What failed on the top? Was it the tenara thread? I forget what i sewed it with.

Would you post a picture of the failure.

Is the OEM old school nutmeg (not spice) material available for tops?

Chris, it was a thread failure. I don't recall what you called it but it was a mono-filament. I would get you a pic but I just dropped the top at an upholstery shop this morning to get it repaired. Still love the top and hope you can get back into making them. I'd love to get a fastback top made, that just uses the roll bar as a frame, if you ever consider taking on a project like that.

Congrats on the second little one!
