Time for a Dana 300 rebuild :(

Swapped the fluids and found quite a bit of metal on the magnetic drain plug. Any guesses where it could be coming from? I hear a low and rhythmic grinding sound coming from the area of the 300. It seams to have gotten slightly better after the fluid swap. Input/output shaft bearings?

hello

its probably a bearing that is going bad. have you ever flat towed it with the rear driveshaft still installed. that has a tendency to take out the output shaft bearings. the only good thing is the d300 isnt that hard of a transfercase to rebuild.

I have never flat towed it, but when I bought it there were shackles attached to the front bumper. So, yes, it was likely flat towed.
