Stock radio cut out dimensions

I looking for dimensions for the the stock radio cut out in dashboard for 84 CJ7. PO cut out for standard DIN size radio and I want to restore it back to original size. Believe main cut out is 4 1/4" by 2" but would like confirmation as well as the diameter and spacing of radio knob holes on either side.

So I take it that you're going to do a restoration of a shaft radio then?

Yes, thinking of getting a Retrosound Hermosa radio.

Ohh I see. mine was already cut out to single DIN size too, I'm sure someone has an unmolested dash panel out here.

Stock radio cut out dimensions

Mine is 4 1/4 x 2. Holes are 5 1/2 Center to center with the diameter of 9/16. Also, note the hole on the right has a key way. This is on a 77 CJ5 if that matters to you.

I would measure the radio and cut to fit.

Thanks Bob. Would be the best way to do it, but I don't have the radio at the moment and want to complete the refurb of the dash panel ASAP.

Thanks for the info seth. May ignore the keyway asI don't think I would need for the radio I am installing. Will post pic once I complete dash panel refurb.

Most radios have some degree of adjustment in the positioning of the control knob posts to accommodate slight variances in the cutouts.

When ever I hear the word 'Jeep' I reach for my wallet.

I believe I still have the stock cut out. It sounds like you might be all set. If you still need it measured, just let me know.

If I can add on here, does anyone have a picture where they filled in a molested dash to put in a retrosound? I have some fond memories of those dials and I'm trying to decide if I'll go with a new dash or not.

Before and after photo. Will need one layer of bondo and then will sand down the whole dash plate to make ready for painting.
