Special dash pad for hard doors and O-R Fab sport cage

Is there a different dash pad for CJ's that came with hard doors from the factory? The reason I ask is because I went to the OR Fab website and it said in order to install the sport cage you have to the the dash pad with the groove for hard doors. If this is the case, I take it I cant install the OR Fab sport cage?

Can I still get hard doors without changing the dash pad?

Thanks

The 2 dash pad designs are for doors that have vent windows and those that don't. Vent windows were pretty much standard '82 to '86 on CJs. I have an '81, I had to get the latter design dash pad to put in my Rockhard cage. If your's is an '85 and has vent windows in the doors, you should be fine.

The problem is I do not currently have hard doors, but want to get them. I also want to install the weld-in roll bar, but do not want to cut away at my dash pad.

So, if I get doors with the vent window I can still put them on but wont be able to use the vent window?

The cage will negate the use of the wing windows. You can find dash pads for a CJ with the wing windows. Its an easy bolt in.

Beat it to fit, paint it to match!

If you're putting in the cage, it won't matter what doors you get as the vent windows can't be opened.

But for the cage to clear properly, you need the dash pad specifically for doors with vent windows, like this one:

See how thin the part above the windshield knob is? That'll allow the cage to pass by without having to cut anything on the pad.

Now look at this one, that part of the pad is much thicker and would need to be trimmed off for the cage to pass by.

If you look at the upper left of this picture, you can see why you need the right pad to work with the cage. Plus, no room to open a vent window.

Nothing like resurrecting an old thread, but here goes.

John N, is that an OR FAB cage kit? If so, is there any way you can get the width of that bracket that attaches to the dash? I'm laying out a new dash and I'm planning on getting an OR FAB kit, but I need to make sure that I get my stuff out of the way.

Thanks
