Cj Shifter Help Please

**NEWBIE**

I purchased a 76' cj5 and the shifter(when in first) hits my driver seat. Tried to find a replacement shifter online but it looks like I'll have to get an entire assembly. I have a 232 with T-150 trans. Tried posting a pic but am having trouble!!!!!
Thanks for any help!!!!

Sure your seat riser isn’t bent, seat not bolted correctly.

How much forward movement do you have?

In the shifter? It's not as far as it should go. I have a 79cj7 , same motor and trans (i think) and my cj7 isn't like this at all!! Don't know if it has to do with it being 76 cj5, compared to 79 cj7...but it shouldn't be way down there right!? It shfts great but I have to press it against the seat when in 1st

Just gonna throw this out there, looks like the shifter is hitting on the edge lip of the stick shift cut out?
Take your stick out and turn 180, and see if you can clear all gears, or go to a local shop, and heat, bend until your satisfied.

Cut it down or bend it. Each pretty easy. Good luck.

Look it's a 4.6!

I had a 76 CJ-5 with 304 and T-176. Seems to me there was a forward bend in the stick. My memory's not that clear so I could be thinking of another Jeep.
